Charleston, South Carolina Fishing Charters
Fish Charleston, Kiawah Island, Folly Beach, and Mt Pleasant, SC year-round. Anglers of all abilities welcome.
The South Carolina Lowcountry is one of the most productive and visually engaging inshore fisheries on the East Coast. The combination of spartina marsh, oyster-lined creeks, winding tidal rivers, and shallow flats creates a habitat where fish are constantly moving and feeding with the tides.
Days on the boat are laid back and relaxing. Boat rides take anglers throughout the heart of the Lowcountry and the conditions dictate where and how we fish. Some days are technical and demanding, some are forgiving. Every day offers the potential for something unforgettable for anglers of all abilities. Light tackle anglers can expect a mix of sight fishing, structure fishing, and steady action throughout the year.
Light Tackle Inshore Fishing In Charleston, SC
Light tackle inshore fishing in the Lowcountry can be as technical as shallow water sight fishing or as simple as a shrimp and a bobber. Some days are built around accuracy and timing, especially when sight fishing redfish in skinny water. Other days are spent covering productive edges, casting soft plastics, spoons, or jigs along oyster points, grass lines, or deeper bends where fish feed at different stages of the tide. The variety of habitat allows anglers to fish many different ways.
Light tackle in the Lowcountry is efficient, effective, and accessible to anglers of all abilities. From families and beginners to seasoned fishermen, the style of fishing can be adjusted to match each angler’s comfort level and the day’s conditions.
Light tackle techniques can be tailored to each species — from casting soft plastics for redfish and trout to throwing topwater lures at feeding jacks when the opportunities present themselves.
Charleston offers a strong mix of inshore species, with different opportunities peaking at different times of year.
Redfish
No other species of fish better represents the Lowcountry than the redfish. They’re here twelve months a year, adapting to every change in season. Redfish can be caught using different techniques by anglers of all abilities.
Tarpon
No other inshore fish brings the excitement, size, and raw power of a tarpon. While the Lowcountry is known for its redfish, Charleston quietly holds a strong seasonal tarpon fishery that peaks in the warm months.
Jack Crevalle
Few inshore fish bring as much raw power and chaos as a jack crevalle. In the warmer months when jacks show up in the Charleston Lowcountry, they bring with them a level of intensity that most anglers never forget.
Seasons for Inshore Fishing in Charleston, SC
Light tackle fishing is available year-round, but the tone of the fishery shifts with the seasons. Understanding those changes helps anglers know what to expect.
Spring Light Tackle Fishing
Warming water spreads fish into shallow bays, grass edges, and oyster flats. Redfish, trout, and flounder all become more active. Bait returns, and overall action improves throughout the season.
Summer Light Tackle Fishing
The busiest, most diverse time of year.
Redfish feed early and late around structure and shallow flats.
Trout remain active along drop-offs and creek mouths.
Tarpon can be found rolling and feeding in current.
Jack crevalle arrive, creating high-energy opportunities on the right days.
Long days and warm water make summer a great time for anglers of all experience levels.
Fall Light Tackle Fishing
Fall is one of the most consistent fishing seasons in the Lowcountry. Redfish school up and feed aggressively. Tarpon and jacks are still around until the weather cools.
Winter Light Tackle Fishing
Winter means clear water and tightly grouped schools of redfish. On sunny, calm days, sight fishing can be excellent. Trout remain an option in deeper creeks, while most warm-season species are gone until spring. It’s a technical season with rewarding fishing for those willing to slow down and hunt fish.
